About Us

The Fertiliser Association of India (FAI) was set up in 1955, and registered as a company. FAI is the national representative body of all fertiliser manufacturers in India comprising public, private, joint and cooperative sectors. It is a non-profit, non-trading organization of fertiliser manufactures, distributors, technologists, plant/equipment manufactures, research institutes and others interested in fertilisers.
 

Main object of FAI is to bring together all concerned with the production, marketing and use of fertilisers with a view of promoting solution of industry problems, to assist industry in improving its operative efficiency and to promote the most productive use of balanced fertilisers for raising agricultural productivity.
 
 
ORGANISATION

 
 FAI is managed by the Board of Directors representing various interests of constituent member units. Presently, the Board comprises 29 Directors who are mostly the Chief Executives of their respective Companies. The Chairman and the Co-Chairman are elected for a period of one year. The Director General of the FAI is the full time Chief Executive of the Association and administers the Association within the policy guidelines laid down by the Board. The activities of FAI are carried out through various functional divisions/depts. namely Technical, R&D, Marketing (incl. Statistics and Economics), Agronomy, Documentation and Public Relations. FAI has four Regional offices in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Delhi, besides the headquarters located in New Delhi. The total staff strength of FAI is 65. The activities are financed by annual subscription from Members (for Active Members subscription is related to tonnage of nutrients sold subject to a ceiling).

FUNCTIONING

The work of the Association is guided by the Board of Directors assisted by Advisory Committees in different disciplines. The Advisory Committees comprises 20-25 senior experts/heads of respective disciplines, from member organizations. Each Advisory Committee is normally headed by a member of FAI Board so that proper linkage between board which decides and steer the focus of FAI activities and the Advisory Committees which reflect the views of the experts in each discipline. The following 6 Advisory Committees are functioning: 1. Technical Advisory Committee  2. Pollution Advisory Committee 3. Marketing Advisory Committee 4. Agricultural Sciences Advisory Committee 5. SSP Advisory Committee 6. Advisory Committee on Information and Communication. Besides, the above Advisory Committees, ad-hoc small Committees or Expert Groups are constituted for tackling specific problems/issues, for example (a) Expert Group on Energy, (b) Manpower Development, (c) Perspective Planning Group, etc.
